MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Dave Mason’s Alone Together album got worn to a frazzle on my college dorm turntable at CBU in the mid-1970s. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (inducted as an original member of the band Traffic) kicks off the May 25 FedEx Forum concert that also features the Doobie Brothers and Journey. But the gifted guitarist, singer and songwriter told me that his fans had better be in their seats by 7 o’clock Wednesday night because this rock train stopping by Memphis runs on time.

“They’ll hear some classic Dave Mason, Only You Know and I Know, We Just Disagree, Feelin’ Alright, and some live versions of
Traffic that I’ve reworked,” Mason told me by phone before his appearance with the Doobie Brothers and Journey in Austin, TX last Wednesday.

Dave Mason has played with a Who’s Who of rock royalty that includes the aforementioned Traffic, Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, David Crosby, Graham Nash, Fleetwood Mac, Delaney Bramlett, and Michael Jackson- just to name a few!

“Working with Hendrix stands out from everyone in a way,” Mason told me. “I’ve played with some significant artists.”

Mason turned 70 years old on May 10 and will be on the road this summer with Journey and the Doobie Brothers through September 3. He clearly loves his craft.

“I’m good at it and I still enjoy doing it and it’s better than sitting at home doing nothing,” Mason said.

Dedicated Dave Mason fans who listen to his reworked Traffic cuts will hear a fresh take on music that may rekindle memories of a misspent youth.  If you want to enjoy the rare sight and sounds of this rock legend playing in the heart of Downtown Memphis, you’d better find your way to your FedEx
Forum seats before the clock hits 7 on Wednesday night.  Tickets for the show are still available here:
