Sports Authority going-out-of-business sales begin Friday

Sports authority is starting its going out of business sales Friday.

The sporting goods retailer filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection in March.  At that time, the company indicated that it would only close 150 stores and two distribution centers.

Then, the sporting goods store told the U.S. Bankruptcy court it would not reorganize, and instead it would sell the stores reporting $1.1 billion dollars in debt.

Now, according to court documents, the chain is preparing to close all 450 of its stores nationwide. That includes the four locations in the Mid-South:

·         Germantown: 5895 Poplar Avenue, (901) 761-7817

·         Cordova: Market of Wolfcreek - 2751 Wolfcreek Pkwy, (901) 373-2501

·         Collierville: 10337 E Shelby Drive, (901) 850-9384

·         Southaven, MS: South Lake Center - 225 Goodman Road West, (662) 536-2313

The court documents state final sales are expected to run through the end of August.  Some locations may be purchased by other retailers.
