Citadel of Deliverance Church is teaming up with the Shelby County Health Department for a new camp this summer.

It's an effort to help children in a positive way during summer break.

Sheryl Norfleet is the mother of three teenagers. She's worried with all of the violence that has struck Memphis this year, one of her children could be the next victim.

"You don't want to keep such a tight reign on teenagers because you want them to be able to enjoy life like we once did, but with the current murder rate that we have going on our city--it's alarming," Norfleet said.

Norfleet is excited to send her youngest daughter to Tech Camp at Citadel of Deliverance Church. The camp is a partnership with the Shelby County Health Department to keep her daughter and other children in a positive environment. The camp will also teach them teach them work skills.

"So I think this is only going to just be something to add to what she's doing in a positive," Norfleet said.

Pastor Linwood Dillard will help teach the class. He said it will teach life skills and computer skills. These are skills Citadel will continue to cultivate even when the camp ends.

"Hopefully the relationships can be built that we can actually track the young people that have participated," Dillard said.
