MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A man convicted of raping a woman in 2012 has been convicted in another rape that happened the same summer.

Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich said Michael Richardson faces 15-25 years in prison when he is sentenced in June.

Richardson, 37, is currently serving a 22-year sentence for a rape in 2012. This week he was convicted on another rape charge from the same year, and Weirich said he has even more rape trials pending.

After his arrest, Richardson's family defended him saying he was not a monster.

Investigators said Richardson and an unidentified companion offered a woman a ride home during a 100-degree Memphis day in June 2012.

She got in the car and the men punched her in the face and threatened to cut her throat if she didn't perform sexual acts on the men.

Investigators said both men raped the victim and forced her out of the car in a remote area in Shelby County.

Richardson was identified through DNA in a rape kit related to the attack.

His DNA has linked him to several other rapes that occurred the summer and fall of 2012. In each case the victim was picked up along Summer Avenue, raped, and abandoned in a remote part of Shelby County.
