Professional marathoner competing in Great American River Run

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

An elite runner and the 2012 Boston Marathon champion has his sights on Memphis.

Pius Nyantika will be running in the inaugural Great American River Run Half Marathon on Saturday. The race is the most recently added event to the Memphis in May lineup. 

Nyantika most recently won the Kentucky Derby Half Marathon, setting a course record in 61 minutes. The 30-year-old was born in Kenya and has been professionally racing in the United States for five years.

Over 2,000 runners from 34 states, plus Germany, Belgium, Canada and Great Britain are registered to participate in Saturday’s run.
 
You still have time to register for the event online. You can also register in person Friday between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. at the Great American River Run Expo at the Peabody Hotel, Tennessee Exhibit Hall.
