MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

The 4 p.m. temperature in Memphis Thursday afternoon reached 90 degrees with a heat index (what it feels) of 97 degrees.  This is the warmest temperature recorded in Memphis since October 15 of last year when the high reached 93 degrees.

The average high temperature for Memphis on this date is 84 degrees, with a record of 95 degrees set in 1962.

The record will stand, but the heat and humidity will continue into the Memorial Day weekend when we could reach 90 degrees again as a steady flow of warm moist air from the Gulf of Mexico continues to stream into the area.  We'll also keep the chance for rain and possibly of a few thunderstorms in the area.

To keep up with the temperatures and the chance for rain, I suggest you download the WMC Action News 5 Storm Tracker app to your smart phone or iPad.

It's a free download that will give you access to instant weather information including an interactive radar, hour by hour forecast, and weather videos.  It's the perfect app to have to stay informed of the weather and the heat for the upcoming holiday weekend.
