MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

She is the oldest person to ever graduate from Memphis Theological Seminary, but at 85 years young, Lynnette Dalton isn't letting her age slow her down.

Dalton just earned a Masters of Divinity, and she plans to use it to help the homeless.

"There really isn't anybody to visit them in the hospital," Dalton said.

Lynnette Dalton is the oldest graduate in the school's history--which dates back to 1852. She recalls how her age made classroom discussions much more interesting.

"You all grew up with television and computers. I didn't have that as a child and you could just see the expression on their faces change. They really couldn't imagine," she said.

Her presence was felt outside the classroom as well.

Keith Gaskin is Vice President of School Advancement and noticed her on campus quite often.

"Every time I would see her on campus it would bring a big smile to my face. I have always been a believer in lifelong learning," Gaskin said. "She's very involved in our outreach program. She volunteers across the city. She is pretty amazing. She has more energy than the average student."

Dalton said she has advice for older citizens unsure of heading back to the classroom: Go for it!

She plans to minister and visit the homeless while they are sick and in the hospital through Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
