MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Tennessee Highway Patrol stopped a mother driving her children and 116 pounds of marijuana to a wedding.

THP arrested Karla Munoz, 23, of Arizona. The arresting trooper said Munoz told him she was driving her children to a wedding.

The trooper saw a five-year-old lying unrestrained in the backseat and a 7-year-old in the middle seat. He asked for permission to search the vehicle.

The trooper and two drug agents found hidden compartments in the vehicle's floorboard. Those compartments were lined with lead to avoid detection by x-ray machines at the border.

Hidden in the compartments, agents found 116 pounds of marijuana.

“It is really a sad day when a parent engages in criminal activity, endangering their children,” Commissioner Bill Gibbons said.  “As our troopers investigate traffic stops they will continue to find more and more cases just like this. Tennessee simply remains a major drug trafficking corridor and we are continuing to work hard to change that.”

The vehicle and $437 dollars in cash were seized.  Karla Munoz was arrested and charged with felony possession of Schedule XI drug with the intent to sell and deliver.  She was transported to the Shelby County jail without incident.
