MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Memphians came together at Tiger Lane on Saturday to invite everyone to stop the violence in an inaugural anti-violence block party.

With more than 90 homicides already in 2016, residents said it is time to pull together.

Loud music and bounce castles filled the afternoon as speakers took the stage and told residents why the violence needs to stop.

Ayan Alexis, 8, was one performer who used music to spread her message.

"Every time I look on Instagram and Facebook, all I hear is about someone getting killed, raped, all types of things, and I don’t like when that happens, because a lot of people die,” Alexis said.

Residents said more events like this need to happen throughout the city and throughout the summer.

"This here is a learning session to empower people who want change to bring peace to the neighborhood,” Renardo Baker said.
