MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Metal barricades fell on Beale Street early Sunday morning, causing a stampede on the busy street, according to the Beale Street Merchants Association.

Hundreds of people rushed for safety after hearing what turned out to be the noise from the barricades hitting the concrete. Some reported hearing gunshots, but officers said nobody fired a gun.

During the stampede, police blocked all entrances to Beale Street.

Two people were arrested during the stampede.

Officers ordered a woman to stay off of Beale Street because she tried to enter through an exit. According to the police report, the woman, Alexis Davis, got aggressive and started yelling at the officers about a beer order.

According to the police report, the officers told her to stop causing a disturbance, but she refused. As the officers tried to take her away, members of her group lunged at the officers, grabbing one of their guns.

Around the same time, a man, Lawrence Anderson, tried to get on Beale Street through an exit. When officers tried to stop him, he got aggressive with them and attempted to lunge at the officers. He then cursed at them, according to the police report.

Both people were arrested for disorderly conduct.
