Grandson of Earnest Withers shot, killed in Dallas

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Arthur Withers was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas, on Sunday.

Withers authored 10 books as the owner of Rico Ward Publishing.

Withers was the grandson of the late civil rights photographer Earnest Withers.

He was the son of Terry Withers and North Memphis community activist Linda Ward.

Withers leaves behind two daughters, one who recently graduated with a double degree.

Family members said Arthur Withers was visiting Dallas for a graduation when an altercation happened at the grocery store. His family said the other person followed him and killed him near 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
