An Uptown Memphis grocery store caught fire early Tuesday morning.

Roxie's Grocery, located on the corner of Third Street and Mill Avenue, caught fire around 2:30 a.m.

Memphis Fire Department officials said no one was inside the building at the time of the fire, which they believe was caused by faulty electrical wiring. There was no smoke detector or sprinkler system inside the building.

Firefighters had to cut a hole in the roof of the building to fight the flames. Nobody was injured fighting the fire.

Witnesses gathered as they watched the popular burger joint burn. They said the business has been a staple in the community for more than 30 years.

"Come to get a good burger, the Roxie burger, the Big Red Breakfast," witness Anita Adams said. "I mean, everybody comes here to eat, the police, the firemen, everybody."

The store recently underwent renovations, adding an outdoor patio.

"[The owner] is kind of disappointed because he likes to stay open 365 days a year, so this is a minor setback for a major come up," Floyd Miller, the owner's son, said.

However, Miller added that the owner plans to get everything cleaned up and reopen the store as soon as possible.
