MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

David Fizdale, the new Memphis Grizzlies head coach, said he came to Memphis to win.

"I'm here to win," Fizdale said. "I didn't leave Miami and that beautiful beach and all that water and good stuff to come here to lose. I came here to win."

General Manager Chris Wallace introduced Fizdale by running down his list of accomplishments from his high school and college playing career to his climb from being an NBA intern to top assistant coaches.

One of the questions asked over and over at the press conference surrounding Mike Conley, because the standout guard's contract is expiring.

Fizdale said he had a fantastic conversation with Conley, and he's excited for the opportunity to coach the point guard.

Wallace even took over the microphone when it was obvious everyone in the room wanted more information about the task of signing Conley to a long-term contract.

"We obviously want to re-sign him and will recruit him vigorously," Wallace said.

Fizdale also gave some insight on the direction he plans to take the team. He said he loved the Grit and Grind mentality.

"I want to sustain that. Our defensive system will be a physical one...so yeah, we're going to still Grind teams," Fizdale said. "Hopefully we can get to a point where we take it even to another angle because our offense is putting pressure on them as well."

Fizdale said he felt Memphis had the pieces in place to make a run at a title. He said that was one reason he took the job.

"The goal is to win a title--no doubt about it. With the pieces we have and the pieces we're going to put together, and with us working together in this collaboration, I see no reason why we won't be able to take that road."
