MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Greensward protesters Maureen Spain and Fergus Nolan had their day in court on Tuesday after police arrested them during a protest at Overton Park on Monday.

"I am very disappointed in this," Spain said.

The Memorial Day protest continued the months-long battle over zoo parking. Before being arrested, police told protesters they would receive trespassing charges if they did not leave the Greensward.

"We were peacefully protesting in the park and given an ultimatum to leave by 12:30. I was arrested at 12:20," said Nolan.

Police arrested Spain a short time later. Law enforcement claimed Spain had her two sons protest with her and were concerned the heat would affect them.

"My children were safe and well hydrated and surrounded by friends," said Spain.

Nolan faces a disorderly conduct charge. Spain faces multiple charges, including criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.

The prosecution had no comment on the case. Both Nolan and Spain are due back in court on September 1.
