A 14-year-old in Coahoma County, Mississippi, is facing manslaughter charges after a 15-year-old was found dead.

"It's very hard, very hard," Oscar Brunt said. "It's hard for me to sleep."

Brunt and his wife, Courtney, can't believe their 15-year-old grandson Jaylon Campbell is gone.

Sheriff’s deputies found Campbell shot in the chest on Coldwater River Road in Jonestown. Campbell died from his injuries.

"He lived in Cleveland, Mississippi. He was going to spend the summer vacation with us," Courtney Brunt said. "I picked him up Saturday. Sunday he got killed."

The 14-year-old suspect was charged with manslaughter-culpable negligence.

It happened in the home in Jonestown where Courtney Brunt's sister lives. Brunt said her sister was at church.

"He stays over here with my sister sometimes," Brunt said. "I just don't know what got over this child to have a gun."

Investigators also charged Darnell Dye in connection to the shooting. He faces charges of tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Campbell's friends believe the shooting was an accident.

"I know it was a mistake because I know he wouldn't try to kill him," Montez Williams said. "I know he wouldn't kill him because we are all brothers."

Jaylon Campbell is dead and now his grandfather will never go fishing with him again, or spend another summer with him.

"I was looking forward to spending as much as I can because I love him and he loved me," Oscar Brunt said.

At this point, Coahoma County Sheriff's investigators are not giving specific details of how the shooting happened or if the 14-year-old suspect will be charged as an adult.

A $2,500 bond was set for the 14-year-old while the investigation continues.
