CORDOVA, TN (WMC) -

The Olympics are still about two months out, but some Mid-South athletes are preparing for their own games.

Team-Mid South takes off for Cleveland Friday morning for the Donate Life Transplant Games of America. Donors, recipients, and their family members make up the team representing our area.

They will participate in traditional track and field events, as well as others like ballroom dancing.

Greg Gorham lost his daughter 13 years ago in a car accident. Lauren’s organs saved the lives of four people. He is honored to represent her in the games.

“One of those was a quadruple recipient with four children. So, that’s about as good as you can get for the situation we were in," he said.

More than 6,000 people are expected to participate in the games to highlight the importance of organ donation and celebrating the lives of donors. More than 100,000 people are on waiting lists for organ donations.
