Reading reward

Some Mid-South students, parents and educators got rewarded for reading Thursday. It's all part of the "M-C-S Reads" program. A drawing chose three students, three parents and three teachers.. who will be honored for their reading efforts. Memphis City Schools Superintendent Dr. Carol Johnson says the goal is to make sure every student is a good reader. "Even our first grade students are reading, little small books, but they're all believing they can read 25 books this year. I think that if we believe students read more, they'll become better readers. And we want all of them to pass the Gateway test and the TCAP test this week." Dr. Johnson says program will also teach students to LOVE reading! She also says the goal beyond the 25 books per student.. is one million books across the district!
