Businesses take precautions amid threat of protests

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Protest groups floated a few possible locations for protests around Memphis, but so far none of the protests have come to fruition.

In the Medical District, University of Tennessee Health Science Center dismissed staff at 4 p.m., citing traffic concerns.

Health Sciences Park, near UTHSC, was one possible protest site.

A few businesses near Highland Street and Poplar Avenue said they added extra security for the night, because protesters said that area could be the site of a protest.

The Wolfchase area is another location where rumors of a protest circulated.

These rumored protests come amid online calls for a 'Day of Rage.' Memphis Police Department said it had no specific threats for protests, but the department took precautions to keep all Memphians safe.

'Day of Rage' rumors swirled in 2014 after the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. Those rumors never manifested into actual protests.
