SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) - Eastbound Interstate 40 reopened near Airline Road after a four-car crash shut down the roadway for a short period of time.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, Carol Black of Memphis tried to make a U-turn on the interstate in her Toyota Camry. A Honda Pilot driving behind her was able to stop, but a GMC pickup towing a boat two cars back could not stop. It crashed into the Pilot, and another truck towing a boat crashed into those cars. The force of those crashes propelled the Pilot into the back of the U-turning Camry.
One person inside the Camry was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators said Black was charged with driving on a divided highway and due care law.
