MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - A group of Memphians came out early Saturday morning to help heal the city with the best kind of medicine: free hugs!
Free Hugs Memphis waited near the finish line of the Design A Wish 5k near the intersection of Central Avenue and Greer Street.
As runners and walkers passed, the volunteers gave out their best hugs and high fives.
What's more, the runners themselves woke up bright and early to race for a great cause--the Make a Wish Foundation. The Design A Wish 5k, hosted by International Interior Design Association, helps Make A Wish Foundation of the Mid-South raise the funds to be able to grant children battling life threatening diseases their wishes.
Event organizer Dwayne Jones said he and his longtime friend Angela Anderson learned about the Free Hugs Project and thought it was an simple way to help heal the city of Memphis.
