14 MPD officers going to Ohio to work GOP convention

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - More than a dozen Memphis police officers will be in Cleveland, Ohio to help with the 2016 Republican National Convention.

The convention is set to begin Monday, July 18, and 14 Memphis officers will be there to assist and offer training to Cleveland police officers during the four-day event, according to Memphis Police Department.

MPD is already short staffed with hundreds of openings for officers, and the department has been working around the clock to provide security for rumored protests in Memphis.

WMC Action News 5 is working to learn more about the role the 14 Memphis officers will play in Cleveland, and how the department will cover their shifts at home.
