MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - As high pressure settles into the Mid-South, skies will clear and temperatures will warm. Mostly sunny skies will help temperatures skyrocket into the mid to upper 90s on Sunday. However, the humidity will make it feel more like 100 to 103 degrees.
A CODE ORANGE air quality alert is in effect on Sunday. This means that high ozone levels could be unhealthy for those with respiratory issues, such as asthma. Please limit your time outdoors and decrease physical activity.
Areas in west Tennessee and eastern Arkansas will stay dry Sunday, but a few sprinkles will be possible this afternoon in Mississippi near Oxford and Batesville. Rain chances will be less than 20 percent in those areas.
TODAY: Mostly sunny and hot. High of 95 degrees. Heat index 100+. SW 5-10 mph.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Overnight low of 77 degrees. SW 5 mph.
NEXT WEEK: We are expecting a hot week with little relief in sight. High temperatures will reach the mid to upper 90s each day under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. Due to southwesterly wind flow, high humidity will put the heat index well over 100 degrees each day. Unfortunately, temperatures will remain warm even after sunset with overnight lows near 80 degrees. Pop-up showers will be possible Tuesday through Saturday, but showers will be hit or miss.
