MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - There's still time for those attending community college and technical school to earn a scholarship.
The August 1, 2016 deadline is being promoted for those who wish to retain their TN Promise Scholarship eligibility.
TN Promise provides students with financial assistance for up to five semesters at a community college and up to eight at a technical college.
A community service deadline has to be met; students will complete and submit a minimum of eight hours of service. Places of service can range from a classroom to a hospital. Anyone that needs help finding service opportunities can refer to https://tnachieves.org/ for suggestions.
After completion, students must electronically turn in their hours at https://tnachieves.org/ no later than midnight CT on August 1, 2016.
It should be noted that the deadline applies to upcoming college freshman and students that are returning for their sophomore year.
"We want our students to cultivate a culture of giving back that remains with them throughout their life," Krissy DeAlejandro, tnAchieves Executive Director, said. "While critical to remaining TN Promise eligible, this provides students with the opportunity to pursue their passions and/or explore potential career paths."
The scholarship is administered by the partnering organization tnAchieves, and since their launch in 2008, more than 540,000 hours of service have been given back by students.
