MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - One of the world's best hotels sits right here in River City, according to the readers of Travel and Leisure Magazine.
"We have just strived to mix some good southern hospitality into our little European style hotel and it seems to have paid off," said River Inn General Manager Karl Friedrich.
T&L readers gave the River Inn stellar reviews.
"Being located on the Mississippi, and in the idyllic community of Harbortown certainly helps a lot," Friedrich said.
The GM credited his devoted team with the hotel's high ranking.
"We have a gracious, caring staff who offer guests a cordial welcome along with a complimentary glass of wine at check-in, plus a full complimentary breakfast at Paulette's."
One of Memphis' exceptional fine dining restaurants, Paulette's, moved from Overton Square to the ground floor of River inn in March 2011.
"We would like to think that Paulette's, with its consistent cuisine and service over the past 42 years, contributed to some degree to this recognition," Friedrich said. "We are unique in that we have just 28 rooms and 3 restaurants, plus the River Hall banquet facility. The Terrace offers a terrific view and small plates, Tug's features casual fare with patio seating, and, of course, Paulette's."
This is the latest in a steady stream of honors rolling to the threshold of
River Inn just like the nearby Mighty Mississippi.
Like the Peabody, the Madison, and the Westin Hotel Beale Street, the River Inn has won the AAA 4 Diamond/ 5 Star Alliance Hotel and is rated by TripAdvisor as a number one hotel in Memphis.
With luxury hotels literally worldwide from California to China to South Africa, the Nihiwatu-sumba in Sumba, Indonesia, ranked #1 in the world in the T&L Readers' poll.
