BARTLETT, TN (WMC) -

Police are sending a warning about bags that appeared on doors and mailboxes all over Barlett, but are not showing up in other areas.

You may be helping the greedy instead of the needy if you place anything inside one of the pink bags that are appearing in Shelby County neighborhoods.

"It really doesn't make sense," Taylor Wilson said.

Wilson's family found one of the pink bags Tuesday evening in a Bartlett neighborhood where the bags were left on each door.

The bags ask for "clothing and other items for a cause."

It's for an alleged charity called "Hope for Domestic Violence."

It all sounds legitimate, but the organization behind the pink bags is actually based in Atlanta and has an F rating from the Better Business Bureau.

It caught the attention of Bartlett police very early. They even posted a warning on their Facebook page, telling people this "charity" may not be doing as much good as you think.

When we called the number on the bags, we only received a busy signal, followed by a request for an access code.

Messages left on the actual bags say someone will be back in the neighborhood to collect any donated items.

"It's really a shame people would ever come up with something like this," Williams said.
