Woman robbed, shots fired outside Cordova Walmart

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Police are searching for the person who robbed a Walmart customer at gunpoint.

A 61-year-old woman was loading groceries into her car when a man walked up behind her, grabbed her purse, and ran away. The victim said a second suspect was also with the thief.

This happened around 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Cordova Walmart. Other witnesses told police they heard someone fire a gun around the same time.

According to a police report, an unknown man was seen yelling and chasing the suspects.

It's unclear if the shots fired had anything to do with the robbery or the man chasing the robbery suspects.

"It hurts you to give up something you worked so hard for or something that's yours," Kathy Spicer said.

The 61-year-old victim said she is safe and forgives the suspect, but hopes they understand it wasn't right.

Many customers feel uneasy, while wondering who would do such a thing.

"Pretty scary--I wouldn't want that happening to me," Jessica Thorpe said.

Police have not said if the suspect or someone else fired shots.

Regardless, shoppers are watching their backs.

"You never know if they're going to pull out a gun or knife or whatever," Spicer said.

No one is in police custody. Police have not released a suspect description.
