SHELBY COUNTY, TN (WMC) - Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies spent hours in a standoff with a man in the Lake Village neighborhood.
According to the police report, a woman said she heard ten or more gunshots ring out behind her home on Millers Glen Lane. She said she, another woman, and several children took cover as the gunshots continued.
After speaking with the woman, deputies heard more gunshots coming from behind her home. The deputies went to Patsy Circle, which backs up to Millers Glen Lane. Deputies saw a man walking toward the road on Patsy Circle. When that man, later identified as 20-year-old Rodney Rodgers, saw the deputies, he turned and ran into a home, barricading himself inside.
According to SCSO, Rodgers came outside of the home on his hands and knees when he saw the SWAT team arrive on the scene. Rodgers told officers he was having chest pains, so first responders took him to the hospital.
SCSO has not said if anyone other than the suspect was in the home during the standoff.
Detectives said they found numerous bullet holes in the backyard fence of the home on Patsy Circle and shell casings throughout the house.
Neighbors said the whole situation worried them.
"I knew something big was going on. Didn't want to know, but I knew," neighbor Samuel Stewart said. "It's a quiet neighborhood, something like this, it's kind of shocking."
Rodgers is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and evading arrest.
