MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A woman is accused of lying to detectives in order to divert suspicion from a homicide suspect.

On July 14, Andre Williams was found dead inside a Northaven home.

According to the police report, a day before the homicide, 33-year-old Chaya Woods reported her fiance, Charles Birt, missing. Birt is a close friend of Williams.

Detectives interviewed Woods and asked her if she knew anything about the homicide, given the close nature of the relationship between Birt and Williams. During the interview, Woods said she owned a gun, but threw it into a dumpster outside the Walmart on Austin Peay Highway.

However, when detectives reviewed security footage of the dumpster, they never saw Woods in the area. Detectives said they believed Woods intentionally gave them erroneous information to lead suspicion away from Charles Birt.
