Gunfire exchanged in possible road rage incident

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - One person is in the hospital and another has been detained by police after a shooting in the area of Elliston Avenue and Effie Road.

Police said the shooting happened just after 1:30 p.m.

Officers said multiple people were shooting at each other.

One person was taken to Methodist Central Hospital in non-critical condition by private vehicle.

Police have at least one person detained, but are searching the area for a possible second suspect.

A man who works nearby said he saw a man come to his repair shop with a gun on his hip and minutes later, another man showed up with multiple gunshot wounds.

"Came on the lot bleeding from his head, big chunks knocked out of his arm; I told him get off the lot [and] go to the fire department," Anthony Cole said.

The man told Cole he needed a new tire after an altercation down the street.

"So I guess somebody had made him mad. He said they had been up and down the street chasing each other," Cole said.

Police said the case may have been road rage.

Road rage is something people in the neighborhood said they see daily.

"Sometimes it might be on the end of people being impatient," Tony Williams said.

Cole said the neighborhood shouldn't have to feat gunshots from overreacting, angry drivers.

"I just know all this violence need to stop," Cole said.
