HELENA-WEST HELENA, AR (WMC) - DNA has linked a registered sex offender to being the father of a Mid-South teen he is charged with raping.

William Maylone Watson, a 44-year-old, married, father of three children is charged with raping the 15-year-old girl who he got pregnant.

"He be [sic] over all the time. He take me where they need to go and everything," Irma Brown said.

Brown had no idea what was going on right across the street from her.

The man who now sits behind bars appeared to just be a friend of her neighbors.

"I thought he was just a family friend," Brown said.

However, Watson is charged with raping a 15-year-old girl who lived in Brown's neighborhood.

The teenage victim has three young children. Investigators said DNA has linked Watson to at least one of those children.

"There's a third child that she just had that's a newborn," Helena-West Helena Police Chief Virgil Green said. "The investigators are looking into DNA results to see if he may be the father of that child as well."

Watson lives with his wife and three children. Investigators said Watson knew the teen and her family because he was a handyman for the owner of the home they were living in.

Watson's wife is recovering from breast cancer.

"I don't believe my husband did that...period," she said. "I have three kids here of my own and all three belong to him. He never touched a one of my kids."

The state of Arkansas has the 15-year-old, her three children, and the teen's siblings in its custody.

Investigators said the teen's mother could also be charged.

"She wasn't there to protect this young child," Green said.

Investigators in Helena-West Helena said they are also looking into allegations that Watson may have fathered another child with a teenager in Clarksdale.

Watson is being held on a $115,000 bond.
