Redbirds fail to complete the sweep

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - The Memphis Redbirds' bid for a ninth-straight home win, as well as a sweep of the Iowa Cubs, fell short Monday night at AutoZone Park as the Cubs won 6-2 behind starting pitcher Jordan Pries (3-1).  Memphis is now 49-52 on the season.

The Redbirds' Corey Baker was charged with the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) and two walks in seven innings. Josh Lucas finished up the final two innings, giving up one run on two hits.  Redbirds' first baseman Efren Navarro and left fielder Anthony Garcia accounted for the only Memphis hits and the only Memphis runs – Navarro was two for four with a solo home run, and Garcia was three for four with a solo home run.

The Redbirds will host the Oklahoma City Dodgers Tuesday through Friday. The Dodgers are led by shortstop Chris Taylor (hitting .320) and third baseman Rob Segedin (.309).

Tuesday's game features the King Cotton $1 Hot Dog Night.  Thursday will be an All-You-Can-Eat Thursday, featuring hot dogs with a special ticket purchase.  Friday, the first 1,500 fans will receive a replica of the St. Louis Cardinals' 1926 World Series ring, and fans can also purchase a Theme Ticket that includes a camouflage Redbirds hat.
