Car burglar uses lawn furniture to aid in crime spree

Memphis Police need your help tracking down a car break-in suspect caught on camera in an East Memphis neighborhood.

The suspect is seen on camera using a stool to help in his crime spree.

Video surveillance from a neighbor's camera shows him trying to get inside of an SUV. Police said he used the same tactic to steal things from cars last week in the High Point Terrace neighborhood. He's even seen grabbing a stool and possibly using it to jump a fence after the burglaries.

"I just want someone to catch him. There's nothing worse than a thief," Michael Kennedy said.

Kennedy said his iPod and deposit slips were taken from his pick-up truck. He said he believes his barking dogs likely scared off the burglar from taking more from his attached trailer. He too admits that he made one big mistake by not locking his doors.

"Shame on me. I got my stuff taken so that's my punishment, but this guy need to get his," Kennedy said.

Victim Ben Willoughby, who lives about a mile away, said the man actually opened his passenger side door and stole his pocket knives and four bucks in cash from his center console.

"Violated, ticked off that somebody's going through your stuff," Willoughby said.

Police said the man responsible is in his mid 20's, medium complexion, with dark hair and a goatee.

If you know anything or can help police identify the person responsible, you're asked to call Memphis Police.
