1 arrested in connection with auto shop burglary

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Investigators arrested one of two men accused of breaking into O'Reilly Auto Parts in Frayser.

A concerned citizen told officers two men kicked in the door of the auto parts store on Frayser Boulevard.

One of the suspects was wearing no shirt and shorts. The other suspect was wearing a white shirt and tan pants.

While in the area, officers saw a man walk from the front of the store and get into a green Nissan Maxima. He drove off on Thomas Street with his headlights off.

The suspect then disregarded a stoplight at Whitney Avenue and Watkins Road. Officers tried to stop the car, but the driver refused to stop. The suspect then ran out of his car into a wooded area near Hawkins Mill Road and Suncrest Drive.

Officers chased the suspect into the woods, eventually catching him.  Officers tried to put handcuffs on the suspect, but he resisted arrest. They suspect was later taken into custody.

No officers were injured.

The suspect, later identified as Kenith Phillips, 49, had a revoked TN driver's license, did not have an ID on him, and he is a registered sex offender. Phillips is charged with burglary, driving on a revoked license, evading arrest in a car and on foot, not having a license while being a sex offender, and resisting arrest.
