MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

John Townsley is a disabled veteran who fought in Operation Iraqi Freedom and served in the U.S. Army for 29 years. In 2015, he biked 800 miles for the Wounded Warrior Project. The trip raised $150,000.

Now, he's stepping it up to a different level. From September 1-30, he will bike 2,997 miles from Los Angeles to Washington D.C. He's hoping to raise up to $3 million for the Warriors Center here in Memphis. It assists men, women, and veterans dealing with homelessness or addiction. The money raised will help to complete a new "Hero Wing" for veterans.
