MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Three people were shot after police said a person opened fire towards a MATA bus.

The shooting happened in the Hyde Park area, near Springdale Street and Brown Avenue.

At least three people were injured. One of the victims was on the bus at the time of the shooting. One person received injuries from broken glass. Two others were struck by gunfire.

One person was pronounced dead. Police believe that victim was the shooter's target.

"Right now it appears that the one victim that was pronounced DOA was the one that was actually involved in the argument with the suspects," MPD Lt. Karen Rudolph said. "And that the second victim that was shot wasn't involved in that incident."

The other injured people are in non-critical condition.

Police said a witness said the suspect was standing in the middle of the street during the shooting.

Traffic on Springdale Street has been shutdown from Hunter to Piedmont Avenue.

MATA said they are working with law enforcement.

They are working with MPD to investigate this incident. The bus was travelling northbound on Springdale and was letting a passenger off the bus when the bus was struck by a gunfire and one person on the bus had an injury to their hand from broken glass.

According to MATA, there were four people on the bus at the time of the shooting.
