FRAYSER, TN (WMC) -

Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland is working with leaders in Frayser to fight blight.

Leaders met on Thursday at Childers Avenue at the first of five renovated houses in the MLK area.

The mayor hopes the effort will also decrease crime and increase property value in the area, as well as across the city.

"It is the right thing to do. These neighbors deserve to have other neighbors who are not blighted property," Strickland said.

The cost to renovate the first house on Childers Avenue was $65,000. The house is only feet away from a playground where a teen was killed earlier this year.
