Some heat relief on the way

We have been dealing with lots of heat and muggy conditions for much of the month of August here in the Mid-South, with a little break here and there. Another one of those “small breaks” is on the way by end of the week. Temperatures will drop around 5 to 10 degrees, but the dew points will drop even more and that is where you will “feel the difference" heading into Friday and Friday night. Here is a look what to expect heading into the Labor Day weekend.

A cold front will approach the Mid-South Wednesday night into Thursday morning. That front may trigger a shower or storm on its way through the area, but rain chances are not too high with this system. Behind the front, dew points will fall from the low to mid 70s down to around 60 Friday morning, according to the GFS model below. Most of the other data agrees with this idea.

Dew points around 60 put us almost in the pleasant category on the muggy meter Friday morning. That means it will feel pretty good for those high school football games Friday night. Saturday looks even better!

In fact, in the graphics below, you can see the dew points drop well into the 50s on both the European and GFS model Saturday morning.

Enjoy the brief relief because the muggy weather returns by Labor Day with highs in the low 90s and lows back in the 70s!
