MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Despite the $7 million dollar price tag Shelby County Schools Superintendent Dorsey Hopson said it would cost, SCS employees and retirees will not be seeing a cut to their life insurance benefits.

Hopson recommended an increase in retiree's contributions to their life insurance that would have cut benefits in half for employees.

The current contract for life insurance benefits was set to end Wednesday.

Hospon said last week, in order for SCS to maintain the same level of benefits for employees and retirees, it would cost the district an extra $7 million dollars.
