MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Students at Southern College of Optometry (SCO) spent the summer improving vision around the world.

Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (SVOSH) has been a group at SCO since 1975.

The students involved put in more than 3,500 volunteer hours during the school year, before taking a 4-day mission trip to give free eye exams to people who otherwise may not get proper eye care.

In 2016, groups traveled to Nicaragua, Haiti, and Costa Rica. There they examined patients and equipped them with glasses donated by various groups in America.
