15-year-old detained for Craigmont shooting

A 15-year-old boy accused of shooting a boy near Craigmont High School will remain in police custody at least until his next court hearing, according to juvenile court employees.

The teen is charged with attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm, attempted dangerous felony, and reckless endangerment. The teen’s family left juvenile court in tears after learning their loved one would remain in custody as the hearings continue.

Memphis Police Department said the boy shot a 14-year-old in the leg across the street from the school on Wednesday.

Juvenile court spokeswoman Susan Thorp said it's unclear how long the 15-year-old will be detained. She said he will be evaluated as his hearings continue.

The teen's next court date has not been announced.
