MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A 12-year-old girl who went missing this week has been found and returned to her family. However, the family believes the child was the victim of a crime and that is why she went missing.

MPD issued a City Watch Alert for the child on Friday morning around 1. She was found about 12 hours later.

In the City Watch Alert, MPD said the child was thought to be in danger. They are now investigating to determine whether she was the victim of a crime.

The child's family said she was found with a group of gang members.

"Them grown men took advantage of my child and they still going to be dealt with. I'm hurt about that because I wouldn't do that to anybody," the girl's mother said.

The family asked for their identities not to be revealed for safety reasons.

Police have not confirmed the details surrounding the disappearance of the child.

According to family members, the girl was tricked into leaving her home by gang members and coerced into having sex with at least one man.

"What is the cause for the gang? What is the purpose?," the child's mother asked. "Ain't it enough of us dying already? Ain't it enough of us being raped and killed and buried? Come on! Stop this foolishness and leave our kids alone."

The child's family said on Friday they continued to search for the girl despite hearing conflicting reports of her location.

"We ended up finding her, but it's too much going on with our children," the girl's great aunt said. "You got pedophiles all around molesting little girls. She's not a grown woman. She's only 12-years old."

Family members said the girl was found just a few streets over in her own neighborhood. They believe one gang member, who is at least 18-years old, was sexually assaulting the girl.

Paramedics took her to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital while police try to piece together the details of the crime.

"I'm just happy I found my baby," the mother said. "I found my daughter. I'm relieved. I wasn't going to stop until I found her."

However, the mother said her sense of relief is small. It won't be full until these men are brought to justice.

There have been no arrests made in this case.
