A Better Mid-South: Parental involvement

A Better Mid-South: Parental involvement
Editorial by Tracey Rogers, Vice President and General Manager of WMC Action News 5:

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Students at Kingsbury High School in Memphis described what has been going on inside the school since the start of the school year. They described fights taking place almost every day.

One student said he was sucker punched and eventually picked up and thrown across a teacher's desk. In another situation, a female student said she was jumped after a football game.

I worry that many young people have not been taught to have respect for others and respect for themselves. They also need help learning how to control their anger.

I know the first reaction will be to blame the school system leaders, but parents of the students who use violence have to bear a good portion of the blame. So much of what is happening today is due to a lack of parental involvement at home.

What is your take on this situation? Email me at abettermidsouth.com, or post on my Facebook page, A Better Mid-South.

Stop the fighting, parents get involved so we can make this a better and safer Mid-South.
