Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy whose body was found in the 4100 block of Meadow Creek on Saturday.

Memphis Police Department said Charderious Fennell, 15, was found shot to death in a vacant home on Meadow Creek Road, near Hickory Hill Road and Raines Road.

Fennell was a student at Airways Middle School and grew up in the South Memphis area. His body was discovered not far from where he lived.

Homicide investigators said the house was for rent and some people who were looking to rent the home discovered the body in the garage.

"This kid is 15 years old, and that could have been my child. That could have been your child," MPD detective Fausto Frias said.

Investigators said they have no information on suspects and have no motive for the murder. They said they are told Fennell stayed to himself most of the time and are unsure what led up to the shooting. They are asking for anyone with information about the crime to contact police.

"From checking the neighborhood, he kept to himself most of the time. That is the information I am getting from the neighbors," Frias said.

Friends and family called the teenager CJ. They said the boy had only lived in the Hickory Hill neighborhood a couple of months.

"We are trying to find closure; we are trying to find justice for CJ," Frias said.

A look on CJ's Facebook page shows mentions of local gangs. It's a lifestyle Delvin Lane with 901 Bloc Squad warns kids to avoid.

"The gang life or street life they are pursuing, it's not worth your life," Lane said. "We aren't asking for anyone to be snitches. We are just asking them to tell what's going on."

Police said a reward of $1,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the shooting. Family members are working on raising money to increase the reward.

With very little to go on, police are hoping someone in the community can provide information that will lead to an arrest.

The death of the boy makes the 150th homicide in Memphis in 2016.
