Governor Bredesen says state Senator John Ford of Memphis tried to persuade him to funnel more business to a TennCare contractor. The company, OmniCare, was subsequently found to have a big consulting deal with Ford. Bredesen said the discussions about OmniCare took place long before he knew that Ford was on the company's payroll. The governor's comments follow statements from former TennCare officials that Ford actively lobbied on behalf of OmniCare - now known as U-A-H-C Health Plan of Tennessee. Ford's Nashville attorney, Ed Yarbrough, said he couldn't comment on the governor's statement. The senator is under state and federal investigation for his business ties.
