The air conditioning in parts of Juvenile Court is broken for the second time in nearly two weeks.

Several court rooms and some offices in the Youth Services Bureau are without air conditioning.

Additionally, the outage is affecting part of the detention area. The teenagers and children who live in that area are spending the day in other parts of the detention area, including Hope Academy, the Shelby County School that operates within Juvenile Court.

Shelby County Support Services determined the problem is due, in part, to an old HVAC system. The system needs custom-made replacement coils, which have been ordered. They are expected to be in place this week. In the meantime, crews made temporary adjustments to the system to bring some relief.

Fans and portable air conditioners will be set up in affected areas. Bottled water is being distributed to the affected courtrooms.
