MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

A deputy jailer recruit was shot Wednesday morning, according to Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Knight Arnold Road and Ridgeway Road at Ridgewyck Apartments.

The deputy jailer recruit, Damall Davis, told Memphis Police Department he was bringing food to a female friend around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Davis and another man and the recruit's female friend, who is 22 weeks pregnant, were in a car in the apartment complex's parking lot.

The woman's ex-boyfriend arrived and that's when witnesses heard several gunshots.

One witness saw the two men running from the vehicle, trying to pull their pants up. He then saw the pregnant woman get out of the car without clothes on and argue with the shooter.

"She was hiding and wanted to do a little something something and get away with it," neighbor Don Edwards said. "I don't know what made him come to this location but evidently he knew something."

Davis was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Thirty minutes later, MPD received another call. This one was about an assault.

The pregnant woman said her ex-boyfriend, who she lives with, punched, bit, and threw her to the ground.

She was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

The ex-boyfriend is the suspect in both incidents. He ran away before police were able to arrest him. His current whereabouts are unknown.

If you know where he may be, MPD asks you call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
