KANSAS CITY, KS (NBC) -

A man accused of robbing a bank said he committed the crime because he would rather be in prison than live with his wife.

Court documents say 70-year-old Lawrence John Ripple gave a note to a teller at a Kansas City bank on Friday, demanding money and warning that he was armed.

When authorities arrived, they didn't have to go far to find the suspect. He was waiting in the lobby with the cash he stole.

Ripple reportedly argued with his wife and said he wrote the note in front of her, saying that he would rather be in jail than at home.

Rippled is charged with bank robbery.
