MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

One Memphis intersection has seen 28 crashes so far in 2016, but city engineers have no plans to make any changes.

Red light cameras are already installed at Shelby Drive and Getwell Road, but the intersection has seen an increase in deadly crashes recently.

City engineers said they plan to analyze crash data before making changes.

In the last few weeks, there have been multiple crashes at the intersection. At least one was deadly.

“Learn how to drive and stop rushing,” Tiffany Cowan said.

The City of Memphis has issued more than 1,700 citations this year for drivers running red lights. Police have worked 28 crashes at or within 20 feet of the intersection of Shelby and Getwell.

“If a lot of people follow the rules, it probably won't be so many accidents,” Cowan said.

City engineers said the number of accidents at the intersection can be misleading. While no safety improvements are planned, there could be changes made after the crash data is analyzed.

“All you can get is tickets in the mail. I don't know what that helps or does,” Cowan said.
