MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Juvenile Court closed at 1 p.m. because air conditioning is not working in the courtrooms.

Only emergency judicial matters were heard Thursday, including those regarding the court's detention docket, preliminary hearings, and bonds for in-custody contempt cases.

"The heat in the courtrooms has become excessive, and in consideration of everyone’s health we decided to close the courtrooms,’’ Juvenile Court’s chief administrative officer Pam Skelton said.

Cases affected by the closure will be rescheduled.

Fans and portable HVAC units are being used in offices affected by the extreme heat. Juveniles housed in the detention area affected by the outage have been relocated to an area where the air-conditioning is working.
