September is here, and that means fall, festivals, and football!  If you need some plans this weekend to work around your tailgates, there's a lot Memphis has to offer.

DNA Annual Boat Ride

Join the Downtown Neighborhood Association for a cruise on the Mississippi. The ride kicks off Sunday at 4 p.m.

Le Bonheur Family Series at Levitt Shell

It's Science Day...aka my favorite day! Join volunteers for Physics Day fun and cartoons. The fun kicks off Sunday at 6 p.m.

Delta Fair

It's not over yet! Get your fix of funnel cake and carnival rides at the Agricenter this weekend. The fair ends Sunday, so don't wait! This weekend's events include helicopter rides, a Tiger and Elephant show, the Delta Dash, and tons of music.

Germantown Festival

Food, crafts, music, and of course the Weenie Dog Race! The Germantown Festival was my first taste of what a Mid-South festival is all about, and I had so much fun when I went years ago. Check out the art and snacks for sale and the zone all for kids to enjoy.

Admission is free! Check it out Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. and Sunday starting at 12 p.m.

Yellow Fever: A Tour of the Plague

How much do you know about the Yellow Fever epidemics in Memphis? It's actually a pretty interesting part of our city's history.  Head to Elmwood Cemetery to learn the history of the 1873, 1878 and 1879 epidemics.

The walking tour lasts 90 minutes and starts at 10:30 a.m. Registration is required, and tickets cost $15.

Mid-South Book Festival

Book worms--rejoice!  Check out author panels and discussions and book signings.  More than 75 authors from around the US will be in attendance!  There will also be a student writers' conference, a street fair, and the Words Matter party for book lovers to mingle with their favorite authors and enjoy live art. Oh, and so much more!

The festival runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free Trivia with Blair Witch Promo

Show off your trivia prowess for a chance to win movie promo items and free passes to an early screening of the Blair Witch remake.

Trivia begins at 7 p.m. sharp with prizes for first, second and third place.

Sports & Fitness

Southern Heritage Classic

It's that weekend again!  Rep your TSU or JSU pride for the 27th Annual Southern Heritage Classic.  Besides the game, catch a Battle of the Bands at 10 a.m. at Whitehaven High School, a music festival Friday at 8 p.m. at Landers Center, the Orange Mound Parade on Saturday 9 a.m., and more!

Tailgating starts Thursday, so if you have a friend with a spot, join them for some food and drinks and enjoy the weekend! The game starts Saturday at 6 p.m. at Liberty Bowl. Afterwards, hit the alumni after party at Hard Rock Cafe on Beale Street starting at 10 p.m.

Stanky Creek 50k/Marathon/25k/Half-marathon

Lace up your shoes and hit the trails! Compete in one of four races Sunday morning.  The race kicks off at Bartlett Park on Yale Road.

Bendy Brewski

Yoga and beer sound like my perfect Saturday. Head to Memphis Made to enjoy a 45 minute all-levels yoga class on the patio, then taste some of their best brews.

The class is $15 and starts at 12 p.m. Saturday.

Relay for Life of Collierville

If you want to get a little exercise in on Saturday, you might as well do it for an amazing cause! Head to Collierville Town Square to join up with Relay for Life starting at 3 p.m.  The event raises money for the American Cancer Society to help them get rid of cancer once and for all.

Battle at Bristol Watch Party

If SHC isn't your game, you can cheer on the Tennessee Vols as they take on the Virginia Tech Hokies (or vice versa) with former Vol and NFL-great Stanley Morgan.  Watch the game on one of several TVs, including the jumbotron.

The party starts Saturday at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 and include a dinner buffet, soda fountain, and draft beer.

Delta Dash & Cotton Candy Fun Run

While you're at the Delta Fair, take a quick jog/walk/run at the 5k or 10k Delta Dash.  The event benefits Delta Agribusiness.

The race kicks off Saturday at 7:30 a.m.

Lulu Lemon Sweat Swap

Get your Saturday fitness fix in just two hours with two classes for just $25.  At 11 a.m., get your heart rate up with a 45 minute Kickboxing class at Memphis Fitness Kickboxing.  Then, head next door at 12 p.m. for an all-levels yoga class at Elements Yoga Lounge.

All proceeds benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Art on Tap

Celebrate Art on Tap's 21st birthday wit the Dixon Gallery and Gardens!  Sample beer from all over the world and food from some of Memphis's best restaurants and food trucks.  Then kick back and enjoy music, a collaborative art project, and a raffle.

The event runs from 6-9 p.m. Friday and is for guests 21 and older.  Tickets are $30 for members and $40 for non-members.

Outflix Film Festival

I love film festivals. Film festivals are the best. A weekend of discount movies?! And sure, not all of them are going to be the best film you've ever seen, but that's why you buy more tickets and see more films!

All weekend long, enjoy films about all things LGBTQ+.  From documentaries to dramas to shorts, there are films for everyone.  Check the website for a full schedule of films!

A Chair Affair

Are you feeling crafty? Do you need to fix up some chairs in your home? Learn how to paint and reupholster your dining-room chairs. Bring a chair and some fabric to Me & Mrs. Jones in Midtown on Saturday 10 a.m.

Phare Cambodian Circus

This sounds like an event not to be missed with an incredibly interesting back story. Phare uses theatre, music, dance, and acrobatics to interpret Cambodian history and folk tales.

The company was founded to provide the displaced youth in Cambodia after the fall of the genocidal Khmer Roughe regime. More than 1200 students attend their school for free, 500 of which study circus arts. Check them out at the Buckman Arts Center on Saturday at 7 p.m.

School of Rock Memphis Summer Showcase

School of Rock Memphis is taking over the Broad Avenue Water Tower Pavilion for their Summer 2016 Performance Showcase. Enjoy food trucks and drink vendors while you listen to the show. Tickets are $10 for the event Saturday starting at 12 p.m.

Carnival of the Animals

Let your imagination go wild with Ballet Memphis! Watch the lively creatures from Camille Saint-Saens' famous score come to life.

The fun begins with a festival of arts, crafts, and food trucks on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Memphis Botanic Garden.

Cocktails for a Cause

Grab your friends and get a few drinks for a great cause. This event raises money for Choices--an organization that empowers Mid-Southerners with information about their reproductive health. Head to 1509 Peabody Friday starting at 5 p.m. and find out more!

Carrabba's Cares Week

Do you like Italian food? What am I saying...of course you do. Everyone does. And if you eat at Carrabba's Italian Grill between September 11 and September 13, 20 percent of your check will go to Communities In Schools of Tennessee in Memphis.  The offer is only valid at their East Memphis location.

2nd Saturday Sale

Need a new table? Some funky knick-knacks? Vintage clothes? Head to the Antique Warehouse Mall for their Second Saturday Sale, where everything $10 or more is 20 percent off.  Food and fun all day long!  The warehouse opens at 9 a.m.

Blues, BBQ, and Fashion

Take a trip across the border for a festival that promises to be like nothing you've ever seen.  Enjoy blues music as you stroll along the "Mississippi Blues Trail" at Tanger Outlet Mall, receive prizes and enter giveaways.  While you shop, you can also enjoy face painting, balloon twisting, stiltwalkers, and more!  Food trucks will be on site near H&M.

Head to Tanger Outlets in Southaven on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Southern Junkers Vintage Market

Get your vintage shopping on! Check out more than 65 vendors from across the country as they set up in Overton Square courtyard.
